How to Protect your Tattoos from the Sun: Peter J Salzano

Fresh tattoos are vibrant, crisp, and exciting to look at. But if you’re a regular sun seeker, then you can end up ruining the beauty of your design as sun rays can do serious damage to your tattoos, says Peter J Salzano, a professionaltattoo artist and a blogger.

Various kinds of radiations emitted by the sun like UVA and UVB get absorbed in the skin and break the pigments in the tattoo design. No matter how dark the ink is, the more your skin gets exposed to the sun, the lighter & fader your tattoo will get.

Here are some essential tips that can help you protect your new tattoo from the adverse effects of sun:

Use Sunblock

The most effective way of protecting your tattoo from getting damaged is to use a sunblock. Wearing a sunblock will preserve your skin from wrinkles, blotchy complexions, skin cancer, and various other skin-caused damages. It’s recommended to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for covering your tattoos. If your skin is more sensitive to sun, then choose an SPF of 50. Furthermore, look for the sunblocks labeled “broad spectrum” as it contains ingredients that are required to protect your skin from both UVB and UVA rays.

Cover your Inked Area

Wearing a light layer of clothing could play a crucial role in maintaining your tattoo design and protecting your skin from the sun. Clothing material like cotton and gauze allow your skin to breathe adding an extra layer of protection at the same time. This extra barrier will not only keep your tattoo coloring bright but also prevent it from fading.

Moisturize Your Skin Regularly

Keep your skin hydrated and moisturize your inked area on a regular basis  to protect it from sun damage. Drink water to hydrate yourself and opt for a shorter shower with lukewarm water instead of long & hot showers as it can strip off your skin’s natural moisture.

To conclude, the best ways to prevent your tattoo from fading, burns, and other side effects are to use sunblock with SPF value 30 or higher, wear proper clothing,  and moisturize your skin regularly. Moreover, getting inked during winter could also be an effective way to protect the tattoo design from sun.

If you’re a tattoo enthusiast and looking for any kind of information regarding the tattoos, then following Peter Salzano’s blogs could turn out to be the best option for you.
